Dawnfold — Privacy Policy

Who we are
Dawnfold (Android app com.usefulappz.thebigone) is the daily publication of Usefulappz™ (Mike Kelley), Abbeville, Louisiana. Contact: mikekelleyii.mk2@gmail.com
The short version
Dawnfold collects no data. No accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising SDK, no tracking — we never see what you read. The edition is bundled inside the app and reads fully offline. The app's only permission is internet access, used for exactly one thing, described below.
How the app works
- Reading is offline. Each edition — its seven departments, its puzzle, its pictures — is stored inside the app itself. Your reading progress and puzzle state are remembered in the app on your own device only, so a finished edition stays finished. That information never leaves your phone.
- The weather now-line refreshes live. When your phone is online, the app asks the public weather service Open-Meteo for the current conditions in Abbeville, Louisiana — our hometown, printed on the masthead. That request is for one fixed place, the same for every reader. The app holds no location permission, never asks where you are, and sends nothing about you: no name, no identifier, nothing you typed (the app has no fields to type into). Offline, the figures printed in the edition simply stand.
- The Root Checker line. Like every app in our house, Dawnfold carries a built-in Root Checker. It looks at your device, on your device, and prints what it finds on the edition's colophon line for you to see — for example whether root was detected and how many game controllers are connected. That report is shown to you and never sent anywhere; the checker has no network path. Root and controllers are welcome in our house; the checker watches, it never blocks.
- Doors out open in your browser. The app includes links: the Documentary shelf at the Internet Archive, our subscription register and sister apps on our own website, and a PayPal tip jar. Those links open in your system browser, outside the app. If you follow one, whatever you do on that site is under that site's own privacy policy; the app itself sends nothing anywhere.
What the app stores
Only your reading progress and puzzle state, on your device, as described above. We receive nothing and keep nothing. Uninstalling the app erases them.
Permissions, and why
- Internet — for the single weather refresh described above, and for nothing else. No other permission is requested. In particular, the app has no location permission and cannot know where you are.
Ads
This app contains no advertising SDK, no ad network, and no advertising ID, and collects nothing for advertising. Each edition carries a clearly labeled House Promo card that rotates notes about our own other publications and apps, and a labeled Sponsor chair; both are printed as part of the edition itself, load nothing from any network, and track nothing. If a real third-party ad build ever ships, this policy and the app's Google Play declarations will be updated first.
Subscriptions and payments
Dawnfold sells nothing inside the app and takes no payment information. Subscriptions are kept at the register on our website; the app only carries the door (a browser link). We never see or store your card details.
Children
Dawnfold is a publication for adults — its target audience is readers 18 and over — and it is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone, of any age. Our child-directed apps (the Kids' Corner line) are separate products with their own policies.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date.
