Some designs are decoration. "Ellie" is a composition, drawn in realism — subject first, structure underneath, detail where it pays. It was drawn by MK Test Customer, one of the independent artists selling original work through Tattoo Art Customs.

Realism asks patience from everyone involved: the design is built in layered tones that an artist renders one pass at a time. Bring this one to an artist who does realism for a living and let them talk you into the larger placement; the depth in the drawing depends on it.

This piece was drawn as a one-off commission, and it stays in the gallery as a portfolio example of the custom work the studio does. Tattooing notes: Color Realism

Placement: Color realism belongs on flat, low-motion skin — upper arm, thigh, calf, chest, back — and out of chronic sun, which shifts colored pigment unevenly.

Size: Gradients need room: five inches and up for most subjects, more for fur, feather and scale textures to read as texture instead of noise.

How it ages: The highest-maintenance major style: light colors fade first and blends soften. Strong dark structure underneath, sunscreen, and touch-ups keep it vivid.
